Technology, safety and your home

Technology in the home is really moving forward fast, but don’t forget the basics.  You’ve probably heard about CO detectors, smoke detectors, etc.  You should have at least one smoke detector on every level of your house, and they should be located near the entrance to every bedroom.  In a perfect world, they would all be tied together by household electricity and have battery backups.  Get in the habit of changing the batteries when you change your clocks for Daylight Savings.

You should have at least 1 CO detector, one per level is best.  They are not very expensive.

The detectors are built to last 10 years tops.  Then they need to be replaced, not just the battery.  So think about it, how long have you lived in your house?  When did you purchase the detector?  It should have a “build date” on the back.  Check it and replace it if you need to.  Safety first.
